Sunny Lettuce (Red Leaf Lettuce) is easy to grow and by harvesting the seeds you can grow as much as you can eat. I plant lettuce about every three weeks to ensure I always have fresh lettuce. I pick the bottom or outside leaves and let the center ones continue to grow.
Once the plant is mature it will begin to grow a tall stalk from the center and flower. Once the flowers bloom they will create a fluffy cotton-like ball. This fluff is used to carry the seeds in the wind.
Pick the cotton-like ball and put it in a light colored bowl so you can see the seeds. Gently separate the seeds from the fluff and let the seed dry a few days before storing or planting. Lettuce plants create an abundant amount of seeds.
