Guava Tree

Though many of these Guava are still young, birds have been picking as them; therefore, I decided to wrap them. I wrapped nearly 100 fruit, but you can still see many unwrapped. I will probably let them for the birds, since I can not reach many of them.

The Red Guava are getting larger and I can see from the brown marks that the birds are testing them :) I need to start wrapping them to protect them.

This Red Guava tree has tons of fruit at different stages of growth. In fact, I just got my first fruit, but there are about 40 young fruit.

The Guava on my red Guava tree are starting to develop. This is a three year old tree and about four foot (1.2m) tall, but has about 40 fruit on it. I cannot image how many fruit it will produce next year. 

Guava (Strawberry, Red and White) Tree

The red Guava tree in the back of my house is flowering. There are many buds, so looking forward to getting many fruit this year.

The white Guava tree in the front of my house has one flower and I cannot find any more buds. If it turns out this tree only has one fruit it is probably going to be huge and super sweet since all the tree's energy will be dedicated to this one fruit. Last year I got three fruit and they were 150% larger than average and very sweet.

The Strawberry Guava bushes in the back on my house are flowering and have tons of buds. The flowers are nearly identical to the flower of the red and white Guava.

The Red Guava tree in the back yard has buds, so it looks like I will get Guava this year. The White Guava tree in the front of my house has no buds, but several of the Strawberry Guava bushes have buds.

(7/30) My Guava are quite large.

As I posted a few days ago I got a huge Guava. When I purchased this tree it was labeled as Red Guava; however, when we cut the Guava we found it was white. I must say it was disappointing, but we called the nursery we bought it from and they delivered a new Red Guava tree to our home at no cost and let us keep the original one. Now that is great service.

Pleased to find new Guava flower buds.

(5/1) The new buds are starting to flower and the one previous Guava fruit is growing.

(5/12) My one Guava (right) continues to grow and now there are a few more buds starting to flower (left), but it is rainy and I fear it will not germinate.

I thought I loss two of my Guava fruit after some heavy rains, but when I look closely it appears the base of this flower is growing. I'm still not sure, but I think this is a Guava fruit. I'll keep you posted.

Okay, here is a two week comparison. It looks like it is growing.

I bought a red Guava tree about two weeks ago. It is a grafted tree and about two years old, so I expect to get some fruit next season. Guava trees are quick growers, live about 40 years and produce fruit for about 15 years. They are not particularly choosey about soil and have a shallow root system, making them a good tree to grow in a planter, as long as it drains well, and get plenty of sun light.
