I got one little Eggplant (Nasu) on this plant. I have two other plants of a different verity, but they got hit hard by spider mites, which I'm fighting now; however, they have a few small Eggplants as well.

(9/27) The Eggplant (Nasu) I planted on 2 August are looking healthy and growing quickly now that it has cooled down. 

I added Italian Eggplant seed I collected from this plant to my seed stock and plan to start them soon. This plant made it through the typhoon and is flowering again.

(9/10) I planted Eggplant (Nasu) seeds from my own seed stock about a month ago and two of the seeds sprouted on 6 September. It is a little over a month now and they are doing well.

(8/29) I planted Eggplant (Nasu) seeds from seed I got from my own stock on 2 August and two plants sprouted. I will transplant them to a larger container when they get a little taller.

I planted Eggplant (Nasu) seeds in five starter plugs on 2 August.

I got these seeds from just two 1 inch (2 cm) slices of an Eggplant (Nasu).

(8/2) Got five Eggplants (Nasu) today.

I planted these Graffiti Eggplants (Nasu) last September, which makes them nearly 10 months old. Each time I harvest the fruit I cut off all the leaves and add fertilizer and within days the plants start to grow new leaves and flower. This is the forth time this plant has flowered. 

I planted this new Italian Eggplant (Nasu) a month ago and it is already producing fruit.

I have quite a few Eggplant that I need to pick, but need to plan how to use them before I pick them because they will not last long after picked, so it is better to leave them on the plant for now. 

After I pick all the Eggplants I will cut off all the leaves and add some more fertilizer. The plant is still healthy, so I believe I will get one more harvest.

I had a problem with spider mites twice, but think I finally beat them. I cut off the damaged leaves and washed the plant with dish liquid and water using a rag. The leaves bounced back and now have many Egg Plants growing.

These plants are from seeds that dropped last season, but estimate they are 6 weeks old.

Not maturing as quickly as the package claimed, but I suspect this is due to the cooling temperature, which is between mid-60's (18°C) to mid-70's (24°C). 

Green Peppers (11 1/2 weeks old)

The plant to the right is flowering and has a few small Peppers.

Eggplant (12 weeks old)

I cut off most of the diseased leaves and added some nutrients and fertilizer. It has rebounded and has about ten Eggplant growing, plus it is still flowering. As I predicted from a previous post, the Eggplant are beautifully purple with no scaring now that it has cooled down.

Tons of Green Peppers and flowering again. I keep adding nutrients and fertilizer and it keeps going. This plant has produced over 45 Peppers in the past. We just picked six Peppers today and there are still 6 more Peppers on the plant, plus there is new leaf growth and blooming flowers so I expect many more Peppers from this one hardy plant.

I got one Eggplant (Nasu) so far, but it is not a beautiful Eggplant. The bottom was rough and cracked. It did not touch the dirt and I added fertilizer and minerals to the soil, so do not think those were the problem, but rather it did not get enough water. The planter is shallow and a few weeks ago it was quite warm, so believe this was due to a lack of water. It has cooled down and there are more flowers on the plant so I will get a chance to confirm my theory.

Fall Planting in a Sub-tropical Climate (Update)

In addition to what I have in the tower, I also planted a verity of vegetables in individual planters on 30 September, and just starting to see the first signs of growth. 

Can see some Green Pepper (Piman) sprouts to the left.

The leaf of this Bitter Melon (Goya, Nigauri) plant is larger than my previous plants. I have a lot of seed stock and some from fruit I ate, so believe these seeds are not from my original seed stock, but that's fine. I'm curious to see what the fruit looks like.

Some of the Strawberry Guava seeds are starting to sprout. Now Strawberry Guava is a tree, so I will need to transplant them soon.

I lost the Tomato plant to the left, but the other two are doing fine.

Both Eggplant are doing fine.

Fall Planting in a Sub-tropical Climate

We had a pretty big typhoon 10-days ago that devastated many of my vegetables, but it gave me the opportunity to  begin a new fall crop. Remember, I am in a sub-tropical location, so many plants grow nearly year around. Here's what I have going on the end of September.

If you recall, I was growing strawberries in this tower, but re-purposed it for the below, which I grew from my own seed stock:

• First Tier - Basil
• Second Tier - Green Peppers 
• Third Tier - Tomato
• Fourth Tier - Lettuce
• Fifth Tier - Tomato
• Sixth Tier - Pineapple and some Lettuce

Cucumber (Top Right), Okawakame (Center), String Beans (Bottom Left).

In the front section I recharged the soil and planted Red Cucumbers (Moi) and Bitter Melon (Goya, Nigauri).

This is my Green Pepper plant from nearly five months ago. I was going to remove it, but found new peppers and flowers, so decided to leave it and give it same fertilizer and plant food. To the left I have a Red Lettuce plant and in the center a Garlic Clove (Niniku).

I put this small Red Lettuce plant in a bucket to hide it from my puppy, who loves lettuce. She can smell it, but hasn't found it YET.

I'm trying something new, Strawberry Guava. I bought these from the famer's market last week and like them, so saved some of the seeds and see how it goes.
