Swiss Chard

The Swiss Chard I planted in early October is doing well.

Beets, Carrots (Ninjin) and Swiss Chard

Carrots are growing quickly and I'll be able to start harvesting them soon. One benefit of Carrots is they can stay in the ground for quite some time until they are needed. 

The Swiss Chard is growing well. I will start harvesting the larger leaves to allow more to grow. Swiss Chard has a long growing season so one plant can produce a quite lot.

The Beets are not growing as fast as I hoped, but like Carrots, they can remain in the soil for quite a while until I need them. I also planted a new planter with about 20 seeds for more Beets.

(10/8) The Swiss Chard seedlings are sprouting and I am moving them around to give them space. Swiss Chard can get massive. There are currently 13 sprouts in this container, which is just about perfect.

(9/28) I woke up early this morning and planted some Swiss Chard.

My Swiss Chard continues to grow and harvested another bunch. I harvest about the same amount last week and I anticipate being able to harvest 4-5 times more based on the new growth I can see.

This is the Swiss Chard I have in the back of my house. I've harvested from it twice and it is still going strong. I have it in a deep planter so the wind does not damage it, but because it does not get a lot of direct sunlight the beautiful rainbow colors of the stock is not strong, but the leaves grow large and remain super tender.

The Swiss Chard and Red Daikon Radish in my back yard are doing well. They are not growing a fast as I would like since the soil sunk quite a bit in the planter, but this will be beneficial when the plants get taller since it is so windy. I am also pleased to see no major pest problem. Raised planters are definitely the way to go.

I planted the Swiss Chard seeds on 23 October in the planter I built a few weeks ago and they are starting to sprout.

I planted seeds in 16 spots and have a few sprouts identified by the white arrows.

Last weekend I bought some Swiss Chard seeds and plan to plant them in the planter I recently made. It is hardy, tasty and healthy, not to mention the color it adds to stir fries.

Swiss Chard tastes a bit like Spinach. but healthier. It is an excellent source of magnesium, potassium, calcium and other minerals that help control blood pressure.
