Acerola Cherry (Barbados Cherry) Blossoms

My Acerola Cherry (Barbados Cherry) tree is starting to blossom a little early. Typically it starts blossoming in March and is in full bloom by 1 April. Acerola can blossom and produce fruit 3-5 times a year.

I covered my entire Acerola tree with a net and now getting some pretty nice cherries. I still have problems with ants, snails and the like, but not as damaging as the birds.

I got over 1kg (2.2 lbs) of Acerola cherries so far this year and now the tree is blooming again. This tree typically blooms 3-4 times each year.

I picked Acerola cherries yesterday and got 640 grams (1.4 lbs). There are so many pests (birds, caterpillars, snails) that can damage the cherries; therefore, I typically pick them as soon as they start to turn red and allow them to ripen on a window seal. Additionally, Acerola falls off easily. So if there are strong winds, like we have here, it is best to pick them a little early.

This Acerola Cherry tree is in full bloom with a few cherries starting to develop. I cannot wait to make jam again this year.

It is early November and my Acerola tree is flowering again, plus there is still some cherries ripening.

If you recall, this Acerola Tree bloomed in late April. A couple of days ago I noticed cherries. Yahoo! Also, I noticed new blooms.

This is another cherry. It ripened a few days after I took the picture above. I only have this one small tree and there are not a lot of cherries, so only get one ripen every so often; however, I planted many seeds last year and now have perhaps 10 saplings. Where to put them is my challenge.
