(8/19) I planted eight red Potatoes, four in each container, 2-weeks ago on 4 August and they are starting to sprout.

I grow a lot of Potatoes, but never noticed any flowers. I can see the flower buds, but never actually saw a flower. So pretty.

Remove stocks 

I planted three Potatoes (450 grams / 1 lbs) and got back 1.7 kg (3.7 lbs), which is not a great return for me. I generally get a 5 to 7 times return, plus I got many small Potatoes. I was told that I should have cut some of the stocks to allow more energy to go to fewer Potatoes, which would allow them to get larger. I never heard that about Potatoes before, but I'll try it the next time.

I have many Potato plants growing around the house and one recently turned yellow so I pulled it and got this cute heart shaped potato.

(1 February) I planted Potatoes (Yellow Potatoes) about two weeks ago (18 January) and they are starting to sprout.

(4 February)

(16 February) - This is the growth from the time I planted the Potato spuds to 16 February, which is roughly a month. Now I would like to note the Potatoes had pretty developed roots about 2 cm long when I planted them. I'm excited to see how many Potatoes I get this batch.

(12 March) Still growing. I see the flower buds, but not flowers yet.

I planted Potatoes about three weeks ago and they are starting to sprout. I dug up some Potatoes a few days ago from a different planter and was disappointed with the yield. I hope this container does better. 

I used two 100 gram Potatoes and cut them up around the eyes that started to sprout. A good harvest should yield between 1 Kg (2.2 lbs) to 1.4 Kg (3 lbs). It takes Potatoes 2 to four months to mature, depending on the weather, and I'll know when to harvest when the stock dies away. I sometimes leave the Potatoes in the ground until I need them for as much as a month after the stock dies away. They stay fresher that way.

I planted two 100 gram Yellow Potatoes last week. These were in my Potato bin that started to grow roots, so cut the Potatoes into sections around the eyes. I generally find that Potatoes yield roughly seven times to original Potatoes weight, so expect to harvest roughly 1.5 Kg (3.3 lbs) in 2 or three months.

I cut up and planted a Potato (150 grams) I had in my bin about a month ago and it just recently sprouted. It will take about two months from this point before I can harvest. Now that these just sprouted, I will plant another potato somewhere to let it grow. Potatoes will generally yield roughly seven times the original weight of the potato. The Potato I planted weighted about 150 grams and I expect it to yield about 1 kg (2 pounds). I do not eat a lot of potatoes, so one or two pounds a month is more than enough for me.

I planted this Potato about two months ago. It was a really tiny Potato, so I do not expect much. I already removed the top layer of dirt to check the progress and as expected, they are tiny. The planter is shallow, so do not have big expectations, but suspect they will grow a little more in the coming month. Stay tuned...

I found a bad Potato (Jagaimo) in my bin about a month ago and planted it. It sprouted about a week ago and growing quickly, but it is in a shallow planter, so do not expect a large yield.

Potato, Celery, Garlic, Green Peppers

I planted Yellow Potatoes the end of October and covered with grass cuttings. I had some space to the right and planted a few Garlic cloves, Green Peppers and Celery. All the plants have a long growing period, so curious to see how they progress.

• Potatoes: 2-3 months (can remain in the dirt for months)

• Green Peppers: 2-3 months (but produces for months)

Potato (Jagaimo) Yield

I was surprised at how much that one potato (Jagaimo) yielded. The original potato weighed about 150 grams and I harvested 1,080 grams with some pretty decent size. Oh by the way, you should not wash your potatoes for storage. I did because I harvested when the dirt was moist and it was a mess, but it is mid-June and the potatoes are still doing fine.

It is recommended to let the dirt dry before harvesting, primarily to avoid a dirty mess; however, I just could not wait to see what I got.

Potato (Jagaimo) Plant Spent

By early May the plants were nearly spent. The potatoes (Jagaimo) can be harvested anytime after the plant starts turned yellow or even weeks after they die. Potatoes preserve well in the earth, but ensure you do not leave them too long or they will start to produce tubers of their own.

Potato (Jagaimo) (End of March)

In mid-March I planted a typical store bought yellow potato (Jagaimo). The picture above was from 31 March. The potato had hour eyes so I cut in four parts with each part containing an eye. I planted each part about 6 inches deep with the eye facing up. I used standard potting soli, a little cow manure (only 10% of the total volume of soil) and added liquid fertilizer every two weeks.
