Santan Flower (Jungle Geranium)

As I mentioned in a previous post, Jungle Geranium produce a berry like seed occasionally. I've been checking this plant for months and finally found one. I planted it and hopefully produce a new plant. Of course, you can also propagate these plants by taking cuttings.

This Santan flower (Jungle Geranium) is nearly in full bloom and so beautiful.

This is what it looked like on 27 September when I bought it. It has grown a lot and produced many more flowers.

The Santan plant produces a beautiful orange flower and berries (seed) that will turn deep purple.

The berries will start off green, turn red and eventually turn to a deep purple.

I planted a Santan berry (seed) a few months ago and it finally started to sprout. I plan to plant all the berries once they mature to produce many more of these beautiful Santan plants.

(9/27) I see these Santan shrubs (Jungle Geranium) all over Okinawa and love the flower's share and color. 

There are many verities and colors, but I prefer the bright orange. 

Yesterday (9/26) we found one at a famers market for 498 Yen ($4.50) and I had to have it. I brought it home and immediately transplanted it. It grows in most tropical and sub-tropical regions and is of the West Indian Jasmine classification.  

Most people that follow my blog know I do not like growing anything that is not edible. The Santan flower can be used as a garnish and is edible, similar to the Nasturtium and Hibiscus flowers.
