Mango (Kitsu Mango)

Finally, I have been able to produce Mango. These are Kitsu Mango, which are large green Mango and supposed to be the sweetest of all Mango verities.

They are growing quickly, but do not mature until late August or mid-September, so many challenges to deal with.

The Mango are already starting to pull down the branches, so I've used cord to suspend them. I know it looks crazy, but each fruit must be uniquely suspended.

To prevent birds and bats from damaging them, I covered the tree with a net.

Typhoon season is coming soon, so hope this makes it through. I have the poles connected to metal stakes in the ground, so confident it will not blow away, but it might collapse. I have more poles, so plan to place them inside to strengthen the structure.
Now that I know I can successfully grow these Mango, I will rebuild the structure next year using metal. Perhaps even make a greenhouse.

Asparagus

These Asparagus are almost two years old. I read that Asparagus produce seeds, but I never saw them before. I saw all the tiny flowers, but no seeds; however, this year I can see many seeds.

Dragon Fruit

Dragon Fruit are starting to flower. Dragon Fruit typically flower from May to September. My challenge this early will be to find pollen from another plant to cross-pollinate from. I got cuttings from another plant that I am now propagating, but they will not be ready to produce flowers this year; however, next year I should not have an issue.

Getto (Shell Ginger)

Getto (Shell Ginger) is starting to flower. The flowers will produce seeds pods that will turn a beautiful orange and filled with seeds that look like little pebbles. Both the leaves and seeds are used to make tea that is healthy and delicious. It is odd, but the color of the tea is a beautiful deep pink. Getto has many medicinal properties, such as controlling blood pressure, relieves flu-like conditions and improves your digestion system. The leaves of the plant are often used to wrap mochi rice and stemmed for its delightful flavor.

Pineapple

This Inflorescence (baby Pineapple) is really starting to take shape. It is starting to grow it's own leaves and crown. So cute!

Fruit Bats

Fruit Bats love rip Papaya. These two bats ate a 2kg (5lbs) Papaya with no problem. I have so many Papaya I really do not mind it, but my Mango are getting bigger so will have to cover the tree to protect the fruit.

Tomato

There are a few Tomatoes here and there with new plants popping up daily. The next batch of Tomatoes should be ready in 6-8 weeks.

Passion Fruit

It is Passion Fruit season again. The purple Passion Fruit are just starting to ripen and these yellow Passion Fruit should start to ripen in another month or so. There are so many fruit on the plant, plus it is still flowering. I have not counted, but I estimate there are 400-500 fruit on the vine at the moment and more to come. Last season I got over 700 fruit and suspect this season will be no different.

Strawberry

Still getting a Strawberry on occasion.

Guava Juice Receipt

This season my Guava tree was so productive it was challenging to eat them all or even give them away, so instead I made Guava Juice. Guava is high in vitamin C and includes iron, vitamin A and calcium. And, unlike other fruits, Guava only contains 68 calories per 100 grams. Of course this is a personal choice, but to keep the calories down you can use Stevia, Monkfruit sweetener or coconut sugar.

Ingredients:
    500 grams Guava fruit
    350 grams water
    60 grams sugar/sweetener

Steps:
    1. Wash the Guava
Note: It is really important to wash before pealing
    2. Peal the Guava and place on scale (500g)
    3. Place Guava and water (350g) in blender
    4. On the lowest speed, mix for 20-30 seconds
Note: fast speed will break the seeds
    5. Transfer to a mix to a bowl and calendar
    6. Use a spatula on the inside on the calendar
Note: Guava seeds are small, so do not press the pulp
    8. Add sugar/sweetener (60g) to the mix, refrigerate and enjoy
Note: Add more water if too think

Mint (Choclate and Lemon Balm)

The Mint behind these red flowers is Chocolate Mint. I want to propagate more once I get some new runners.
I went a little crazy propagating Lemon Balm Mint. I now have it everywhere. It is so easy to propagate.
Lemon Balm Mint
The labels in these pots are old. The top pot is Sweet Mint, the second from the top is Chocolate Mint and the last two are Lemon Balm Mint.
These are all Lemon Balm Mint, except the one sitting on the table. That is Chocolate Mint. I have Spearmint on the other side of the post.

Parsley

This Parsley plant is doing well. As long as I can keep the snails off it, it stays healthy and continues to produce new growth.

Garlic Chives (Nira)

These Garlic Chives (Nira) are doing fine and I use them a lot. I have had this container for years and separated the rhizomes about four years ago and have them in another container, but I'm not seeing any new rhizomes. I do not need any more plants, but just curious why it is not becoming thicker.

Dragon Fruit

The folks at the Community Center gave me these two cuttings about two months ago, because I need another plant for cross-pollination. I have them in water to grow roots, but one of the plants is already starting to grow new branches. They grow quickly. If I can get them in the soil soon, they will probably flower this July or August.

Tomato and String Beans

I got a handful on Tomatoes and String Beans today, but Cherry Tomato season is nearly over and only have a few more on the plant; however, I'm already starting to see new sprouts from fruit that dropped earlier. As for the beans, I keep them going year around by planting a seed every month. There are periods of the year the plants do not produce, but it is a short period.

Pakuchi (Cilantro,Coriander)

These Pakuchi (Cilantro, Coriander) plants bolted and now flowering. I will let them go to seed and collect them for future planting. I plant seeds every couple of weeks and have a few sprouts that I'm already using. It's nice to have fresh herbs handy.

Iris Flower

I had my first Iris flower bloom today. They are such a beautiful flower.

Avocado Tree

I started this Avocado tree from seed in 2018. A couple years ago it was doing well, but suddenly started to die; therefore, I trimmed it and feed it well. Last year it was in pretty poor condition, but it bounced back and recovered beautifully. Avocado tress grown from seed generally take 8-15 years before they start to produce fruit, so I just need to be patient.

Tomato

I decided to pick this Tomato before the birds got it. I presented this a few days ago with a plastic bag over it, but it ripen quickly and thought it best to just pick it. Also, another handful of String Beans.
I picked these Cherry Tomatoes yesterday. I also picked some Mint and made Mint tea.

Pineapple

This Pineapple flower is starting to rise and the Pineapple is starting to take shape.

Tomato

Cherry Tomatoes and String Beans.
Getting a handful everyday.
I have more Tomatoes than I can eat, so will leave this Tomato on the plant until it is completely rip. I have a plastic bag at the top in an attempt to keep birds away.
This is a plant I created from a sucker. These Tomatoes will ripen soon.
This is another plant I created from a sucker.
Once again, these plants are from suckers.

Bougainvillea Vine

I got this Bougainvillea vine cutting from a neighbor on 11 April 2021. By December 2021 it started to product leaves. I started to train it early last year and it finally started to bloom. Looks beautiful. I have a few more vines and training them to grow like a tree. It will take a few years since I need to trim it upwards and let the base grow thicker.

Today's Harvest

Some beautiful cherry Tomatoes.
Green Beans
Nearly everything for a nice salad. I have lettuce and celery as well, plus I have Strawberries, so the Guava and Strawberries will make a nice dessert.

Guava (Red)

Getting some beautiful Guava everyday.

Myoga (Japanese Ginger)

Myoga (Japanese Ginger) is starting to sprout.

Clover and Nasturtium

Clover and Nasturtium growing wild in the back of my house. I should call my sight "My Jungle Garden."
