Shikuwasa Tree

This Shikuwasa tree is really starting to flower. I hope it produces lots of fruit, but it is still small, so am not expecting too much.

  1. What happened with this little guy? Any fruit? I've wanted one of these trees for ages but I can't even find the fruit to get seeds to plant, let alone a cutting. The Asian stores in my area (Ohio) don't sell the fruit and I can't find an online source for anything other than juice.

  2. Tatyana, this little guys is doing well, but not little anymore. It has not produced any fruit, but I suspect it will fruit next year. It had flowers, but I removed them. I want it to focus on root development. I have a lot of requests for seeds, but do not have any myself. I looked for them, but can't find them either. Stay in touch in case I find some. By the way, I asked you in a previous post what region you lived, but you answered that. It gets cold in Ohio, so you should grow all your trees in pots and take them inside for the winter. Most of these trees do just fine in pots.

  3. Thank you! I keep checking the local Asian markets just in case they get some of the fruit, but no luck so far. I read that someone from the rest coast was able to order from California but didn't mention the store, I may need to explore this further :) I do enjoy propagating my own plants so this is right up my alley. I'm so happy to have found your blog, really enjoying reading about your plant adventures!

  4. I wish you luck finding this tree or fruit. The fruit is amazing. As you may know from following my blog, I grow most of my trees from seed, but citrus grown from seed have thorns, plus the fruit may not be what you expect. So far, I have not experienced this and the fruit I've grown from seed have been delicious. In fact, the most problematic tree I've had has come from a nursery. I purchased Mikan trees three times from a nursery and twice died due to bark beetles. I've not had any issues with the trees I've grown from seed. Curious. Anyway, I will update all my trees in a day of two, so stay tuned.
