Pilea Microphylla (Artillery Weed) and Sedum

I use two types of plants to protect the top soil around many of my plants. One is called Pilea Microphylla or Artillery Weed. It grows wild and I do not intentionally plant it, but if it comes up I leave it; however, it is a perennial and does not last long, so I prefer Sedum.
The second is called Sedum and it is a succulent. When I want to grow it around a plant I simply grab a handful from another location, place it on the soil and water it.
Within a few months it will cover all the soil and start growing over the edges. There is a mini rose bush in there somewhere :)
